Trail Research

The trail research was easy on this one. Several of my family members wanted to go see the Garden of the Gods, so we hopped in the truck and headed to Colorado Springs. My nephew picked the Siamese Twins, as he had been there before and really liked it.

Drive to the Trail

It’s always a great day when you get to drive along the Rocky Mountains and end up in the Garden of the Gods. The scenery is always spectacular and the views are amazing.

Pikes Peak is so tall and stands alone that it is nearly always visible from many parts of Denver.

My Day on the Trail

I hadn’t written a trail review on the Siamese Twins Loop Trail because it was just my family and I hanging out in Colorado Springs, and then I realized that I had some cool pics that all of you might enjoy, and everyone seems to want to visit the Garden of the Gods.

We walked around the central garden area and saw many rock climbers climbing and repelling several of the rocks in the area. We even shot some video of the rock climbers you can see at the end of this review.

Everyone was extremely nice and we even talked to several of the rock climbers and were given a little lesson in what they were doing. Some of the climbers we talked to had come in from Utah.

It was a beautiful warm October day in Colorado and it seems everyone had chosen this day to come to the Garden of the Gods. There was a lot of traffic but it wasn’t hard to get around the park, but finding a place to park in some locations was a challenge.

The trail in the central area of the park is not so much or a trail, as it is a 10-foot wide concrete sidewalk, but it makes it nice when you have so many visitors walking through the park.Garden of the Gods

There are so many magnificent rocks and trails here at the Garden of the Gods, but the one thing I remember hearing a lot is, I didn’t bring enough water. The sun is more intense at the higher altitudes so make sure you’re prepared for that. Bring a nice ball cap or broad rimmed hat.

We stayed and watched the climbers for about 30 minutes before heading off to another area of the park. One of my nephews thought the Siamese Twins were cool enough to re-visit, so off we went.Garden of the Gods

Of course, this next picture is one of the iconic pictures of the Garden.

The mountain in the background is Chyenne Mountain.

It wasn’t long before we started on our short hike and had some incredible views of the Siamese Twins.

The trail is easy to walk in this area. It’s not a hike at all, but it may feel like it to some. Just make sure to bring a hat and some water on a sunny day.

Trail Recommendations

Everyone needs to visit the Garden of the Gods if you’re are anywhere close to Colorado Springs. It is a beautiful park with some of the most incredible rock formations.

Remember to be prepared for a little more walking then you might expect, and pack some extra water, sun screen and a nice hat.

Food

We were all hot, thirsty and hungry so we stopped at Rudy’s on the way home. It was nice and cool inside and the brisket sandwich was incredible.

  1. Hi, I’ve never been to Colorado, but I’ve always Thought it would be a very beautiful place to visit. Especially for the nature. Where I live there is no mountains or Hills so to speak. I’ve always found the mountains to be very Beautiful. I like that there is no mosquitoes, and no bikers that you passed during your trip. That can definitely be annoying, and the fact that you ran into several other hikers is probably a good thing. Safer that way.

    • It is safer to be in the area with other people in case of an emergency.

I will have to say that all of the mountain bikers I have passed on other trails are all really nice and respectful. People here in Colorado know how to share the trail.

I grew up in Oregon and Washington around the Cascade mountain range and the Pacific Ocean, but then I married an Oklahoma Girl and stayed there for 33 years. I finally made it back to the mountains and I absolutely love it here in Colorado.

  2. I really like hiking as it one of my favourite sport after football and I have been on a few hiking trails like the Trek to Petra (Jordan), Camino de Santiago (Spain), Kungsleden (Sweden), but I haven’t been on any hiking trail in Colorado Although I have heard about the garden of the gods and I have always loved to go there but I always forget, but after reading your article I think I would make plans.

    • I have visited Colorado myself many times in the last 30 years but we recently moved here and it’s an incredible place to live and play. I have no shortage of outdoor activities to plan. The only problem is narrowing down my list as I have a job also.

I hope you can visit soon. Let me know if you do and I will give you some advice on other things to do and places to visit.

  4. Looks like you had a real great family time here. I’m hoping I’ll get to go that side too sometime this year when I get my vacation leave. I would be most interested in site viewing and shooting photos more than hiking, I’m just scared of heights and might just be okay with watching others do it. I’m very curious about the garden of the gods. It looks like a place one would enjoy being at. Thanks for this review it is real informative .

    • The Garden of the Gods has so much to offer and there are many more things to do in the Colorado Springs area. Another favorite thing visitors like to do is to drive to the top of PIkes Peak. It is one of our many 14ers here in Colorado.

  5. Hello Rick, how nice of you to share your experience. I can tell you got a kick out of this one. A visit to the Garden of the Gods would always be fun given its fantastic views and clearly, your nephew thinks the same. The photos are amazing. I also couldn’t help noticing the photos of the mountain climbers, that is so daring I must say. Do you ever consider mountain-climbing?

    • No! No mountain climbing for me, however, my son keeps talking about it, along with my daughter. It’s a great sport that I want nothing to do with, but it is awesome to watch.
